Karachi: Wednesday 13th May 20226: Pakistan received approximately $1.3 billion from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF), the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) announced on Wednesday. According to the Central Bank, the inflow will be reflected in the SBP’s foreign exchange reserves for the week ending May 15, 2026.
The development comes after the IMF Executive Board approved Pakistan’s third review under the EFF programme and the second review under the RSF during a meeting held in Washington, DC, on May 9. The approval enabled Pakistan to access nearly $1.32 billion in fresh financing.
Under the decision, Pakistan received around $1.1 billion (SDR 760 million) through the EFF arrangement and an additional $220 million (SDR 154 million) under the RSF arrangement. With the latest release, total disbursements under both facilities have reached nearly $4.8 billion (SDR 3.348 billion).
The IMF approval followed a staff-level agreement reached on March 27 between IMF officialsand Pakistani authorities. The agreement came after extensive policy discussions conducted in Karachi and Islamabad between February 25 and March 2, followed by virtual consultations.
Pakistan’s 37-month EFF programme, approved on September 25, 2024, is aimed at strengthening economic resilience and supporting sustainable economic growth.
