Islamabad: Inflation in Pakistan is rising as Sensitive Price Index (SPI), increased to 13% on Year on Year basis, on week ending on July 16, 2026. The major reason for increase in inflation is rising petrol and diesel prices, while prices of important food products have also seen increasing trend.
Prices of important food products like tomatoes, mutton, beef and wheat flour saw notable increase in prices on a yearly basis while Prices of Tomatoes, Milk, Yogurt also increased significantly. However, some of the food products saw little increase in prices such as Chicken, Onions, Eggs and Tea. High energy, electricity and transport prices are key factors putting pressure on households in Pakistan, which is undermining capacity of households to spend more on food items.
Although government is taking measures to control the food prices, however, recent increase in prices of petroleum products specially diesel is expected to push prices of consumer goods higher.
